Coalition Development
Real Reason has identified significant potential in a new approach to coalition development that can:
- Determine how the missions of individual organizations fit into a larger system of ideas
- Cut across policy goals and build coalitions based on values and shared ideas — in the form of cognitive strategic initiatives
- Realize the full potential of synergy — the whole being greater than the sum of its parts — as coalition members support and amplify one another’s efforts
- Create a better understanding of the conceptual dimensions of why some coalitions fail while others succeed
Developing a systematic understanding of what unites and sustains coalitions at a conceptual level is a long-term goal for Real Reason. This work will draw heavily from ongoing research into how different democratic values and principles are connected to one another. It will also build on cognitive strategic initiatives designed for other projects.
Real Reason seeks partners for this work who are considering unconventional approaches to coalition-building.
